Update Note:
Muzzy is one of the original tiers showcased on The Classic Salmon Fly. Muzzy is a gifted and talented tier who designs many of the flies he ties. Please check out Muzzy's many flies along with some new ones he has shared with us here on The Classic Salmon Fly.
Muzzy was a charter member of The Classic Salmon Fly and I'm sure you will enjoy his Showcase page. Many of the flies there are of his own creation.
Muzzy has been tying flies for around 12 years, Classic Atlantic Salmon flies for around 8. He started tying fishing flies for trout and progressed to hairwing salmon flies for Atlantic Salmon. As Muzzy says, "I really don’t remember what drove me to Classics, I think it was when I started getting the Atlantic Salmon Journal, with all the articles on Full Dressed Salmon flies. I have met so many great people who I now consider friends including Flip Pallot, Stu Apte, Lefty Kreh, Charlie Chute, Charlie Mann, Roger Plourde, Paul Rossman, Ed Wolfer, Paul Seymour and many more just do to the fact that I tie Classic Salmon flies".
Muzzy has been tying at shows on the East coast for quite a few years. He holds classes on tying Classics and really enjoy sharing what he has learned from trial and error and from all of his fellow tiers.

Classic Salmon Flies have been around since the mid 18th century but they have never been so popular as they are today. With the development of new, cheeper and easy to use materials anyone that can tie a descent dry fly can learn to tie a Classic Atlantic Salmon Fly in the tradition of the masters without spending a fortune on materials. From its beginning Classic Salmon Fly tiers have been first and foremost fishmen. The art of the Classic Salmon Fly began to take shape when tiers such as Edward Fitzgibbon, Francis Francis, George M. Kelson, Dr. T.E. Pryce-Tannatt and Major John Traherne wrote definitive books on the subject of Salmon Fly tying. From those begginings the art of tying salmon flies has developed into a major social art form. Tiers such as Ron Alcott, Mikael Frodin, Joe Gablick, Poul Jorgensen, Ronn Lucas, Sr., Michael Radencich, Kim Rasmussen, and Wolfgang von Malottke have carried on the craft with their books, videos, Seminars and web pages.
It is my desire to show on these web pages some of the flys of yesterday and compare them to the flys of today. I am not trying to make a judgement as to which flies are better I am only trying to show the infinite possibilities of tying the classics today. I hope this would be pleasing to both past and present Classic Salmon Fly tiers.
