Jacques Heroux
Hi, my name is Jacques Heroux, I am a fly fisherman and fly tyer born in Québec, Canada. I started fly fishing at the early age of 10 in and around the streams and lakes of the Témiscouata region. I have been living in New Brunswick for the better part of 25 years now, and I have a passion for salmon fly tying. I fish mostly on the Miramichi river system and I also guide in other New Brunswick waters. During the winter months, I like to build my own fly fishing equipment like leaders, landing nets and rods. But overall my most passionate hobby is tying the Classic Salmon Fly. Tying Classic Salmon Flies is an art which needs a lot of practice and especially lot of patience. I have learned a lot about fly fishing for salmon since I started tying my own salmon flies. A large thanks goes out to my friends and mentors Bryant Freeman, Jerome Molloy and Marc LeBlanc who didn't hesitate to share their knowledge and expertise with me over the years. Authors that have influenced me in fly tying are Kelson, Francis Francis, Traherne, Bergman, Jorgensen, Radencich, Carrie Stevens, Juracek and T.E. Pryce Tannatt. Over the years, I have had the honor of seeing a few of my salmon flies published in magazines, books and on web sites, I have written a few articles for magazines and web site publication and I have won some international fly tying contests. In addition to working as an administrator in a community college, I am tying and selling a lot of Hairwing and Classic Salmon Flies through my web site.
