Hello Fellow Fly Tiers, My name is Edward Muzeroll; my friends call me Muzzy. I have been tying fly’s for around 12 years, Classic Atlantic Salmon fly’s for around 8. I started tying fishing fly’s for trout and progressed to hairwing salmon fly’s for Atlantic Salmon. I really don’t remember what drove me to Classics, I think it was when I started getting the Atlantic Salmon Journal, with all the articles on Full Dressed Salmon fly’s.
I have met so many great people who I now consider friends including Flip Pallot, Stu Apte, Lefty Kreh, Charlie Chute, Charlie Mann, Roger Plourde, Paul Rossman, Ed Wolfer, Paul Seymour and many more just do to the fact that I tie Classic Salmon fly’s. I have been tying at shows on the East coast for about four years. I have held classes on tying Classics and really enjoy sharing what I have learned from trial and error and from all my fellow tiers.
Charlie Chute is with out a doubt my favorite tier. Charlie once told me there are no secrets in fly tying. I would have to say that I agree with him 100%! Hey Charlie, how about another pint of Guinness.
Being way up here in Maine there are not a lot of Classic Salmon tiers the likes of Mass and Conn. As I mentioned I live in Sidney, Maine with my wife, best friend and fishing partner Diane. We have two really neat sons, Tyler and Erik. I am a designer for Bath Iron Works, I work for the Planning yard, which is life cycle support for Frigates and Aegis Destroyers that are in the fleet. We travel to ports all over the world to review the ships for upcoming additions and changes. The wildest trip I ever took was to Turkey. We spent ten days on the Black Sea ship checking one of the Frigates that the Turkish Navy purchased from our Navy. Spent some time in Istanbul, what a wild city!
In closing I would just like to say thanks to Don and I hope you all enjoy my contribution to this thing that we do.
Cheers,
Edward "Muzzy" Muzeroll
Editors Note: In January, 2003 Muzzy attended the Danbury show along with his wife, Diane. According to Muzzy Diane is "my best friend and fishing buddy, and now my tying buddy". Also at the Danbury show was Lefty Kreh, well known fly tier and author. According to Muzzy, "Lefty and Diane hit it off well". On the way out, Lefty stopped by to say goodby and Muzzy was able to get Lefty's picture with Diane in Muzzy's booth.
What Muzzy said next in his email sent me for a loop. "I have also attached a scan of one of my wife's fly's. Diane has been tying for about 3 weeks". If the fly in this picture is from someone that has been tying for only three weeks, it's time for me to break out the rocking chair and give up trying to become a salmon fly tier and stick to nymphs, dry flies and wooley buggers. Sometime soon I will have to have a Showcase page for Diane. Welcome to The Classics Diane.
